The City of Byron Public Works Department is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of 16 miles of city streets that include both traffic lanes, street parking, as well as 3 city parking lots along with all regulatory signage.  The Public Works Department is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of 31 miles of water main piping, which includes 2 booster stations, 3 well sites, 3 water towers, and all city fire hydrants. Byron Public Works Department is also charged with maintenance of 20 miles of sewer system along with 5 lift stations and Byron’s wastewater treatment facility. We are very proud of the City’s infrastructure and work every day to keep Byron a great place to live.

Water Meter Questions

The Byron Public Works Department employees will continue to upgrade residential water meters.  Any questions regarding this can be answered by calling the Public Works Department at 815-234-5261 or Byron City Hall at 815-234-2762.

 

The Public Works Department kindly asks that you remember the following:

Never sweep grass clippings or debris into the gutter or storm drain.

Flush ONLY toilet paper. "Flushable" wipes ARE NOT flushable, and cause blockages in the city's pumps and pipes!
