Police Mission

Officers shall protect life and property, preserve the peace, repress crime, investigate crimes, apprehend criminals, collect evidence, prepare cases for court presentation, recover lost and stolen property, provide a general community service and enforce in a fair and impartial manner the ordinances of the City of Byron and the laws of the State of Illinois which pertain to offenses against the person and against property, motor vehicles, and the general welfare of the public. The test of police efficiency and effectiveness is the absence of crime and disorder, and not the visible evidence of police action in dealing with them.
